We call upon the Canada Council for the Arts to establish, as a funding priority, a strategy for Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists to undertake collaborative projects and produce works that contribute to the reconciliation process.
Why “Complete”? (as of Jul 15, 2018)
No funding commitments beyond March 31, 2017. The Canada Council for the Arts Strategic Plan 2016 – 2021 is structured around four key commitments including “Indigenous: Creating, Knowing and Sharing” that acknowledges the cultural sovereignty of Indigenous peoples and respects the concepts of First Nations, Inuit and Métis self-determination.
July 28, 2020: Canadian Heritage – Jesse Wente, an Anishinaabe writer, broadcaster, speaker and arts leader, appointed Chairperson of the Canada Council for the Arts for a five-year term. The Council promotes and invests in artistic excellence through a broad range of grants and services to professional Canadian artists and arts organizations involved in dance, integrated arts, media arts, music, theatre, visual arts, writing and publishing. It also promotes public awareness of the arts through its communications, research and arts promotion activities.
