We call upon the federal government, in collaboration with Aboriginal peoples, and the Canadian Museums Association to mark the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation in 2017 by establishing a dedicated national funding program for commemoration projects on the theme of reconciliation.
Why “Complete”?
The government did not establish dedicated funding for Indigenous groups but allocated a percentage of over-all spending to indigenous projects that consisted of:
- Signature Projects: $3,603,300 for 5 projects out of 38 (13% of total) including 2 dedicated to Reconciliation
- Community Projects: $28.6M for 248 projects out of 636 (39% of total)
As noted on the government website.“The Canada 150 fund of $200M is now closed”. (July 15, 2018)
