Final Report: National Council for Reconciliation Interim Board

Why?
June 12, 2018 – The interim Board appointed by Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada on December 14, 2017 submitted their Final Report with their advice and recommendations on the National Council for Reconciliation and the related endowment fund, fulfilling their six-month mandate.

Recommendations:
1. Name: Develop a “brand” for the National Council for Reconciliation
2. Vision, Mission and Principles: Process to define and implement
3. Mandate: Develop and implement a multi-year National Action Plan for Reconciliation,
4. Structure: NCR based on foundation model independent of government
5. Membership: Criteria and process for 9-13 member Board of Directors
6. Funding for the National Council: Creation of a National Reconciliation Endowment Fund
7. Reporting: A formal reporting mechanism be set out in the legislation
8. Legislation: That the NCR be set up through enabling legislation in collaboration with Assembly of First Nations, Inuit Tapariit Kanatami and Métis National Council
