Lack of updates from the Federal Government on what’s happening to establish the National Council for Reconciliation. Since the Interim Board submitted their Final Report to Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Carolyn Bennett with detailed recommendations on June 12, 2018 there has been only two updates:
Sept. 5, 2019 – One of the updates included in the government’s response on the official “Delivering on Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action” website. “The Government “will take into consideration the advice and recommendations provided in the final report during the decision-making process”
April 11, 2019 – Budget 2019 announced a budget allocation of $126.5 for the fiscal year 2020-2021 to provide operating capital to the National Council. The budget allocation is far less than the $1B recommended by the Interim Board in their Final Report for a National Reconciliation Endowment Fund.
