NationTalk: Everything Grande Prairie – The County of Grande Prairie is developing an Indigenous Relations Strategy. County council has directed administration to meet with neighbouring municipalities on this idea.
The strategy would determine current and future interactions with Indigenous communities, evaluate the need for an Indigenous Relations Coordinator, and review and identify opportunities to implement Truth and Reconciliation calls to action.
Aspects of the strategy would include recognizing land, treaty, and Indigenous traditions, engaging in consultations with Indigenous communities, promoting cultural awareness, and demonstrating a willingness to learn and grow.
County administration recommended spending roughly $181,000 from the General Operating Reserve to fund developing the strategy.
