NationTalk: FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has signed a development agreement with Amlamgog (Fort Folly) First Nation to support the community’s priorities related to housing, salmon conservation, a transition to green transportation and entrepreneurship.

“Addressing the immediate priorities of the community is an important step in improving the lives of its residents,” said Indigenous Affairs Minister Mike Holland. “Chief Knockwood and Amlamgog councillors have a clear vision of the short-, medium- and long-term development and sustainability goals for their community, and we are pleased to support them in their efforts.”

Holland spoke on behalf of Réjean Savoie, minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

“This agreement will help address some of the priorities for our community but there is still so much to do in areas like economic development,” said Fort Folly Chief Rebecca Knockwood. “We look forward to having these discussions with the provincial government immediately.”

The corporation will provide more than $4.2 million to the community over five years.

This is the fourth such agreement signed between the government and a First Nation since last June. Previous agreements have been reached with Neqotkuk (Tobique) First Nation, Welamukotuk (Oromocto) First Nation, and L’nui Menikuk (Indian Island) First Nation.
