NationTalk: Today, Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew released four mandate letters that were provided to newly sworn-in members of the executive council, outlining the immediate priorities and key commitments of their ministries.

“Manitobans have entrusted us to begin the work of fixing health care,” said Kinew. “A challenge this significant must be shared across several departments. These four mandate letters set out expectations for some of the ministers and departments that will have an impact on the health and well-being of Manitobans so we have a shared and clear direction on what we want to achieve together. As a government, we also want to be transparent and accountable to the people of this province, so sharing our mandate letters publicly is an essential part of this process.”

Each mandate letter provides a strong foundation and clear directives to support ministers as they work collaboratively with the public service, Indigenous governments, organizations and communities, and stakeholders throughout the province to develop broad, inclusive solutions to the challenges Manitobans face in the health-care system, the premier noted.

To ensure critical work can begin immediately to address the most urgent issues facing Manitobans, the first four mandate letters were released as presented to:

Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara;
Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine, minister responsible for accessibility, minister responsible for gender equity;
Labour and Immigration Minister Malaya Marcelino, minister responsible for the Workers Compensation Board; and
Environment and Climate Change Minister Tracy Schmidt, minister responsible for Efficiency Manitoba.

Mandate letters for the remaining cabinet portfolios will be released in the coming weeks.
