NationTalk: Today, invited guests were officially welcomed into Ma Faamii, a warm, bright, and accessible space to serve as a model of community-based supports for MN–S citizens in Saskatchewan.
The Métis Community Hub is known as Ma Faamii, which means My Family in Michif. It is a culturally safe space designed to connect Métis citizens with a wide range of social, economic, and mental support services. MN–S staff will assist citizens by supporting:
- Needs Assessment;
- Information and Referral;
- System Navigation;
- Registry intake, and
- Documentation
The high-quality, confidential, and citizen-focused services offered by compassionate Ma Faamii staff will help individuals and families access the right supports they need from all government departments, institutions, and community partner agencies. The one-stop service centre will help improve the well-being of of families and individuals with coordinated and comprehensive care.
MN–S President Glen McCallum said, “Relationship building is the key to success and about meeting our Métis citizens at the community level. Ma Faamii represents what our citizens have told us they need – a warm, supportive space to connect with others and more importantly, access to the distinctions-based programs and assistance needed for themselves and their families.”
The Saskatoon Ma Faamii centre, located at #113 – 123 Avenue B South, is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. MN–S will monitor the use and effectiveness of the Saskatoon Ma Faamii location and continue to improve on the single access model as it seeks to connect with and support Metis citizens, families and communities.
